The hotel.info value for money index shows: hotel guests judge the hotels in Beijing as first class, cities in southern and eastern Europe compare favourably with other international cities, hotels in Britain offer good value for money and are globally
competitive, Bournemouth is in first place
London, 27 June 2008 – hotel.info, the online hotel reservation service which is free of charge to users, has recently completed a comparative analysis of its own data of value for money in 3 and 4 star hotels taken from the evaluations of more than 500,000 guests which showed that hotel guests judge the value for money of Beijing hotels to be the best globally. Value for money in hotels in cities in southern and eastern Europe is considered reasonable. A comparison of towns and cities in Britain with a population of more than 160,000 shows Bournemouth to be in first place.
In comparing the national top 12 with the top 20 international destinations British and international hotels are comparable. The highest point score for British hotels is a remarkable 8.21 out of 10 and therefore slightly above the international norm of 8.15. However with a score of 5.52 in Birmingham Great Britain also has the worst overall score behind the lowest scoring international destination, Madrid, with 6.87.
In the overall global listing guests have selected mainly European hotels in the first 20 places. Apart from Beijing, Montreal (3rd 7.86), Atlanta, (8th 7.59) and Dubai (19th 6.99) in other continents, the cities of southern and eastern Europe have excellent results: Milan (7.88), Prague (7.85), Lisbon (7.74), Zagreb (7.71), Valencia (7.56) and Venice (7.56) are all amongst the top ten.
In this country Bournemouth, Southampton (7.92) and Bristol (7.06) were the top three. The capital cities however were very varied in their evaluations: Cardiff was in 5th place with 6.67, Edinburgh with 6.24 and London with 5.64 were way behind in 9th and 10th positions. Equally disappointing was Birmingham (the second largest city) in 12th (and last) place.
